Hack3 2022 is a wrap!

Hello hackers,

Thank you so much for attending Hack3 this year. You made Hack3 a success, with over 375 participants from 54 countries! We hosted 7 workshops this year as well as a pre-hackathon course that lasted for 5 days. 50 participants attended our workshops during the event, and over 300 views were logged on our Intro to Computer Science course recordings on Youtube. We provided mentors and 16 esteemed judges to this event and provided lots of opportunities for you to succeed. Overall, we hope that you utilized all of the resources we provided. We hope you had fun presenting live to judges, connecting with other hackers, and learning new skills.

If you missed anything check YouTube for workshops as well as opening and closing ceremonies!

While everyone at the event is a winner, we want to acknowledge some teams that stood out! If you’d like more inspiration for the next projects or continuations, take a look at the projects and all the other amazing projects created at Hack3.

We review every accusation seriously, and this involves a thorough review of the project’s codebase. Fill out the form at hack3.co/cheating to submit your cheating accusation.

Next week, we will finalize our winning teams and confirm prize distribution details via emails provided during registration. Please note that the Hack3 team maintains full discretion over our decisions.

Here are some personal ending notes from me and Jonathan Lei, one of the lead organizers:

Hack3 is what you make it

…is the message we have promoted throughout the hackathon, and for good reason - we believe that we have put in hundreds, if not thousands of hours into organizing this event. We, the Hack3 Organizers, strongly believe that regardless of your economic status, skill level, or experience, you could get something out of Hack3. You might be a freshman in a city or a graduating senior in a rural area. You might have relied on our financial assistance program where we sponsored food, 3 months of internet, and/or physical equipment to ensure that everyone can attend Hack3. Whoever you are, we made Hack3 for you.

However, organizing a hackathon is hard, and mistakes happen. If you have any personal suggestions for things we could improve for next year, please let us know. We truly are committed to providing the best experience for our hackers, and we are open to any suggestions for how we can improve for next year.

Hack3 aims to be a global convention for all interested hackers to join in order to grow, learn, compete, and have fun.

Every year, our organizers join together and work tirelessly to make the best code fest in the world. That was the principle that Hack3 was founded on 3 years ago, and we hope to continue to promote this message as the years go on. Hack3 isn’t just a hackathon. You didn’t just submit a project to competition. You participated in a global movement — one where students worldwide of all walks of life teamed up as peers in a level forum, and over the course of a weekend to learn new things alongside top industry professionals and to engage in the engineering process with the intent of positively impacting the world.

We saw lots of engagement from our workshop participants and in our slack channel. Shout-out to all the participants who showed their Hack3 spirit and actively contributed to a place where coders of all skill levels and expertise are appreciated by engaging in these platforms. In fact, you guys sent over 3,000 messages this past weekend on our Slack server. This number is astounding and really shows how you guys were engaged in our event this year.

However, as you may know, Hack3 is an event organized for high school students by high school students. It takes a lot of effort and people to make this event possible (we have over 10 organizers on the job to make this event possible). As people graduate and move on to college, we will be in need of more organizers. Contact team@hack3.co for any potential organizer applications. A google form will be released to those interested so that we can keep track of contact information and reach back to you sometime in January.

Shout-outs to Eric Sun, Aditya Anand, Madhu Balaji, and Sahithi Alla for joining the organizing team this year.

Again, I would like to thank you so much for participating in Hack3 this year. We hope you will come back for next year’s event, and all of us on the organizing team are excited to see what you can make in the future. Please spread the word about our event to your friends and colleagues if you enjoyed the event.

Thank you for reading this message, and we all hope that you had the best experience at Hack3.

Best Regards,

Srinivas Sriram and the entire Hack3 team
